Relationship with Jehovah?
by Batman89 inwhen you were a devout jw.
did you feel that you had an actual "relationship" with jehovah/god just from praying to him and reading the wt or bible?.
or that this was actually even possible deep down?.

Dinosaurs.
by bobert inas a jw i always believed that dinosaurs at one point existed.
my whole family did, almost all the jws i knew did.
one time i was out for dinner, and one of the people with us was convinced that they never existed.

As a JW there was no difficulty understanding that the earth was billions of years old, or that dinos ruled the earth one time. What did cause some difficulty was the obvious fact that there were carnivores and herbivores. As a 9 year old kid, like most boys that age, I was obsessed with dinosaurs. At that time I didn't know that bible loving crazies actually thought that before the flood no creature ate meat... Riiiiight....
I can't name a single current JW who doesn't believe that the earth is 4.65 billion yrs old or that the dinosaurs went extinct 65m years ago. It's unfortunate, though that the science that proves the human race evolved more than 6k years ago or that the flood never happened is just ignored by the average JW. If it disagrees with the GB's current opinion then it's automatically wrong.
So sad

Raising kids - JW mother, agnostic father
by Zana inmy wife and i have two wonderful children aged 1 and 3. i was raised as a lutheran but stopped believing in my late teen years.
my wife is what i would call a liberal jw (yes, i believe such people exist .
sooner or later our children will have questions about religion and the differences mom and dad show towards it.

Roberto, what did your wife do or say to your kids when they told her they don't believe in god? at what age did she no longer force the kids to go to the KH?
Very curious. It worked out for you very well that she didn't force them Forever. Most JWs say they would force the kids to go until 18 or something. They believe that just sitting in the chairs at the KH will save them from armageddon. Some also believe that just hearing the "truth" will make someone believe.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

If you have an article in your magazine explaining that you're not in a cult... You're in a cult.

A serving elder's take on the new "tithing" arrangement
by TTATTelder inthe gb can kiss my ass.. i'm writing "0" on the little slip of paper they pass out.. hey here's a thought:.
you know that "widow's might" stuff they're always talking about?
well i'm pretty dang sure that the lady was giving from the heart not because she filled out some dumba$$ piece of paper pledging two small coins several months previous!.

TTATT elder... They asked how much each could reasonably afford each month? What about those of us who could reasonably afford to carry the whole hall every month? What if it were taken the wrong way?
The elder giving the local needs last night was very sheepish, red faced. Eventually he just said he would step off the stage before he was asked more questions he couldn't answer.
Immediately after the meeting was over I tossed the slip in the garbage by the door. Left it right on top, in plain view.

Is it true that the GB is soon planning on ditching the 1914 doctrine?
by yogosans14 inor atleast tweaking it again... apparently there has been rumors of this coming out of bethel.

Well they just mentioned it in a WT article a few weeks ago so can't be anytime soon. When they drop a big one like that they just ignore it for a while then announce the 'greater clarifications' later.
What could we speculate could be the replacement?

Abraham Still Considered part of Great Crowd? Not being found worthy of Everlasting Life?
by objectivetruth indoes anyone know of a wt or wt book, that states abraham will be tested again and then judged based on his deeds during the millenium?.
essentiallly claiming that, after god testing abraham, with the sacrifice of isaac, he will tell him that he has to pass the same test that the resurrcted unrighteous have to pass.
i know that this is a teaching that is required by holding to the 2 class belief, but i haven't found any artocles on it.. any ideas?.

I wonder how they explain Matt 8:11?
I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

Lisa, they are more ambiguous than that about the age of the universe. Regardless of what the mags say or don't say, find me a JW under 70 who honestly struggles with the thought of dinosaurs being alive hundreds of millions of years ago. Claim among a group of JWs that the universe is 13.72 billion years old, none will bat an eye. They even will talk about the Big Bang, as long as someone mentions that Gawd dun it.
In recent mags they even pointed out how silly young-earth creationism is.
